The Path Forward
Welcome to the Carbon Footpath at Wolfe’s Neck Center for Agriculture and the Environment!
Over the course of several stops, we will showcase how the environment, agriculture, and human activity engage with the dynamic processes of the carbon, water, and nutrient cycles that form the basis of life on earth.
A carbon footprint is a just a step along a Carbon Footpath that we walk together. It is a shared learning journey about hoe our lives are composed of the building blocks of a habitable planet, lives made possible by the living soil beneath our feet and the biodiversity all around us.
By touring this Carbon Footpath, we hope to make the invisible parts of nature visible and show you their value, so you can use that knowledge to steward and improve the ecology in your community. By sharing knowledge of people as part of nature, people become part of the solution for a healthier and happier planet.
“To cherish what remains of the Earth and to foster its renewal is our only legitimate hope of survival.”
-Wendell Berry

Our work at Wolfe’s Neck Center
At Wolfe’s Neck Center, we are working to elevate principles and farming practices that have proven to build healthy soil, support ecosystem functions, and sustain communities with the goal of building a more resilient and climate-adaptive farming system. We’re implementing regenerative principles on our farm, educating the public about their role in this system, and collaborating with organizations to facilitate research and knowledge-sharing.
These holistic farming principles and practices stem from ancestral land management practices stewarded by indigenous groups and many decades of agricultural research and labor.
At Wolfe’s Neck Center, regenerative agriculture means more than practices that lead to better soil health. We believe that regenerative agriculture encompasses a broad range of outcomes that benefit farmers, animals, ecosystems, and communities. As a demonstration, education, and research farm, we are uniquely positioned to bring stakeholders from across the regenerative movement together to share information and further knowledge around this ever-evolving and important solution to climate change.
